Fans’ fury over Michael Schumacher ‘awake’ claims

A magazine has enraged fans of Formula 1 by publishing a picture of Michael Schumacher smiling with his wife Corinna above the headline ‘Awake’.

Die Aktuelle was accused of using ‘tasteless deceit’ to cash in on the racing driver, who remains in a medically induced coma.

Fans who rushed to buy the German publication found it was full of stories of people who had recovered from coma, and contained nothing to suggest the star was now ‘awake’.

Twitter was awash with criticism. A user posting as Schumi-Fan wrote: ‘I can’t believe they are cashing in on this tragedy. It is shoddy, sensationalist and downright insulting.’

Andreas Kreiner called it a ‘blatant attempt to sell more copies’.

Media ethics expert Christian Schicha accused the magazine of ‘making money out of a sick man’.
