A search for a scuba diver missing south of Perth has resumed.

The 38-year-old man was diving with friends on Saturday about five nautical miles off Dawesville Cut when he failed to resurface.

Police, Surf Lifesaving WA, government departments and several volunteer sea rescue groups have been involved in an extensive air, land and sea search.

It continued into last night but no trace of the man has been found.

Police say the Mandurah Water Rescue Group, Fremantle Sea Rescue, Water police and police air wing will all be involved in today’s mission.

Police officers will also be conducting sweeps along local beaches.

The search has so far covered about 300 square kilometres of ocean surface.
