Australian Barney Miller is one amazing surfer. With a smile from ear to ear, the 34-year-old whips around his board in a gnarly fashion, proving that surfing is one of his true passions – but he’s not like other surfers. At 19, Miller was on his way to a successful career as an up-and-coming surfer in Australia, while owning a white water rafting business but his life changed in seconds.

The year was 1998, Miller was riding as a passenger in a car, when the vehicle was involved in a severe car accident. The accident nearly took his life and resulted in Miller becoming a quadriplegic. He suffered a break to his C-5/6 vertebrae in his neck and was paralyzed, forced to use an apparatus to help him breathe.
