When faced with a horde of jellyfish, professional photographer and SCUBA diving expert Nadia Aly did not flinch – but instead snapped an epic selfie.

Aly, 29, recently spent more than eight hours swimming in the waters of the aptly named Jellyfish Lake in Palau in the Pacific Ocean, which is home to more than 10million gelatinous medusas due to its algae-rich waters and lack of predators.

As the fish have lived unmolested by other critters for hundreds of years, over time their stings have weakened, so visitors such as Miss Aly can swim amongst them without risk of being nipped.

This allowed the Seattle-based SCUBA diving photographer to capture a series of breath-taking images as the sun reflected through the clear waters and the millions of luminous jellyfish pulsated in front of her.

‘Once I found them, I was overwhelmed with the shear amount of jellyfish that were around me,’ said Miss Aly, CEO and founder of ScubaDiverLife.com. ‘I was nervous, as I didn’t want to kill any with the movement of my fins as they are literally all around you.’

During her thrilling swim, Miss Aly was all alone in the lake. In order to find clusters of jellyfish, she followed the sun.
