Officials Tighten LA Marathon Security In Wake Of Boston Bombings

LOS ANGELES ( — Tighter security measures will be in place Sunday for the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon in the wake of last year’s Boston bombings.

The race covers 26.2 miles, beginning at 7 a.m. at Dodger Stadium and ending at the Santa Monica Pier.

“Our top priority is the safety of our runners, volunteers, spectators, and partners,” race officials said.

Runners will notice security changes starting at packet pick-up as they will now be required to get their own race gear in person.

Participants are also only allowed to bring hydration packs, fanny packs and fuel belts, which will all be checked.

Runners and spectators will have to also clear security at one of four checkpoints across the course.

Spectators will also be barred from entering Palisades Park, south of Washington and north of Santa Monica boulevards.
