Should Skateboarding Become An Olympic Sport?

Well, the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics have officially come and gone. Some athletes are returning to their countries as winners, some thankful just for the opportunity – but they’re all heroes. And as with all Winter Olympics, certain sports dominated the headlines, one of which was snowboarding.

From American Shaun White’s colossal disappointment, to Sage Kotsenburg and Jamie Anderson both winning gold respectively in men’s and women’s snowboard slopestyle, there was plenty to captivate prime time audiences. Snowboarding and its numerous disciplines are in the same family as skiing, making it an easy sell on the world’s biggest stage. Add in a couple of heartwarming and courageous stories, some athlete intrigue and boom, you easily have a product that suits the Olympics and is an easy sell.DSC_0215

But the same cannot be said for skateboarding, which could be the next sport to receive the Olympic treatment.
